The Wawel hill, I spoke about it from time to time. But I did not know really how to deal with it, as it is a highly symbolic place in the history of Poland. I have finally decided to make this page, maybe not enough detailed. Anyway, here are few elements concerning this good location in Cracow. First of all, Wawel is the name given to the hill, and not only the castle. Fortified place, it was the seat of the Royal Castle since 1038, and its cathedral, where can be found the graves of all […]

Born in 1869 in Krakow, Stanislaw Wyspiański had rather eclectic art: painting, architecture, poetry, music, translation of great french writers in Polish french (Proust, Flaubert, Corneille ...), sculpture and theatre (texts, decoration and scenarist). He is the most famous artist from the movement of the Young Poland. Among the oil paintings, can be found many representations of the city of Krakow (Barbican, St Florian Gate, Planty and the Wawel), its suburbs and many Polish […]

I have discovered a new sympatic place in the city. How to feel in the countryside without going out of the city ? It is easy. Let's go to Zakrzówek ! This place is the 8th district, Dębniki. Here is an old quarry. On the beginning of the 90's, part of it was submerged with water. Now this place is well-know for diving and climbing. The Diving Club Kraken manages the spot. It is possible to dive till 19 meters depth. The deepest point is at 32 meters depth, but the visibility is too low to […]

Kazimierz was founded by Casimir the Great in the 14th Century to counterbalance the city of Krakow. In the 15th century, the Jews settled down there after being chased away from Krakow. Nowadays, Kazimierz is still considered as the Jewish district of the city. Kazimierz was joined to Krakow at the beginning of 19th Century. It was completly forsaken after the second World War and a lot of inhabitants went away. Kazimierz is now a very dynamic district for entertainment, with plenty of […]

Let’s start our visit of Krakow by the old city and the main square Rynek Główny, one of the biggest medieval square in Europe. Concentrate of historical momuments, it is definitively the most touristic place in the city. But it remains also a place for local people, with a lot of entertainment events  all over the year. On the centre is the Sukiennice. Built first in the 14th century, it was for long time used as a market.  Now the galleries are dedicted to wood, textile and amber […]
